Lazio
Lazio is considered by many the cradle of occidental civilization and Christian culture, the land of lakes and legends, of thermal spas and history, of ancient roads and verdant hills. The region, located in central Italy, attracts millions of tourists every year, mainly to Rome, the country’s capital and its numerous historical and cultural attractions: the Vatican, the Coliseum, the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain among them. However, the region also produces many varieties of wines, which are ready to be discovered.
In fact, Lazio counts 27 DOCs and the 3 DOCGs, among them the DOC Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone. The majority of Lazio’s white wines are made from various Trebbiano and Malvasia grape varieties. The 9 Colli Romani DOCs, located on the Alban hills south of Rome, alone account for over 80 percent of the total production of DOC wines in the region.
